A foundation of the WHE experience is parent involvement. Spend more time volunteering at school and you will see just that. Whether you would like to help in the classroom, or at an event, join a committee or organize a fundraiser, we have numerous opportunities for you.
Volunteer Application Process:
We have many dedicated and wonderful people who come and volunteer their time in both the classroom and at the school. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer at West Hollywood Elementary, please be sure to turn in the following to the front office:
1) Volunteer Online Application and Volunteer Commitment Form (a new form must be handed in each year)
2) Copy of TB test clearance (test results will be valid for 4 years)
If you have a passion for the Arts and want to help spread you love and knowledge to our students, this is the perfect Committee for you. The arts committee works with teachers and staff to create a strong presence of art disciplines at WHE. Responsibilities include working with our Art Chairperson to coordinate art-related experiences for students, brainstorm ideas to bring to the faculty, Organize assemblies, etc
BUILDING AND GARDENS
Do you love gardening and beautifying outdoor spaces? If so, join our Buildings and Gardens Committee which oversees the maintenance and improvements of our school facilities and garden. We focus on the Garden Program, Beatifications Day(s) and the overall outdoor improvements.
Every year FOWHE funds 2-3 bus field trips per grade. Teachers and parent liaisons work together to coordinate their field trips. A written permission slip from a parent is required before a student can participate in a field trip. By helping to subsidize the costs of transportation and admission fees, Friends of West Hollywood Elementary helps broaden the knowledge and horizons of all students in the school.
*All children participate in field trips regardless of their family’s ability to donate.
The Hospitality committee is responsible for providing and setting up coffee and breakfast treats at school events to welcome new families, existing families and prospective families to our school. Volunteers typically need to be available for early morning setups. Events throughout the year include 3 x School Tours and 4 x Coffee with FOWHE board meetings (for all parents to attend). We also host the teacher’s holiday luncheon and teacher’s appreciation luncheons.
Room Parents will work directly with their respective teachers to determine individual classroom needs, scheduling classroom volunteer time, sending out reminders to parents via email, helping coordinate costumes for music concerts, and teacher gifts. Also, sending out a weekly newsletter via SMORE to their classroom.
Room parents must attend the Room Parent Meeting that is held at the beginning of every month.
